With a horizontal Murphy bed, the mattress is positioned sideways. The head of the bed is not against the wall, instead, the side of the mattress runs along it. When opened, the bed occupies less space within the room than a vertical model, making it an excellent option when every inch of depth matters.
This type of bed is especially popular in narrower spaces or in rooms where maintaining easier circulation in front of the open bed is a priority. It also works better with lower ceilings, as it requires less overall height than a vertical Murphy bed.
